Holidays in Armenia: Day 2

Its a quiet day today Gentle Readers.

We are staying at home. Lena will do some school work. We bought our own printer so she can prepare stuff for school.
I have to do some coursework for my future learn course on Gender Equality I am doing.

Robert's friend Karina is coming over to our place to play. Robert has also been doing some maths homework and some work on his spelling and handwriting..

I decided to make a Scottish delicacy. Deep fried Mars bars and it was only partially successful. The apartment now has a bit of a weird smell of oil and melted chocolate.

Heres the youtube vid

They actually tasted not that bad.

While the kids  played I watched the laat episode of Netflix show 'The Politician'. I have really enjoyed it a lot, especially Gwyneth Paltrow's performance.

Holidays in Armenia: Day 1

Hello there Gentle Readers

This week is our first week on holiday since we arrived in Armenia and we have been on our travels.

Geghard Monastary

Temple of Garni

Instead of flying off to exotic locations however we decided to stay in this beautiful country and explore some of Armenia's beautiful scenery and buildings and immerse ourselves in its culture.

Today we took a guided bus tour to the Temple of Garni and Geghard Monastery.

Garni temple is the only Pagan temple left in Armenia and is about 2000 years old. In 1679 it was destroyed by a massive earthquake but was rebuilt using the original materials by the Soviets in the 1970s.

Gegherd Monastary dates from the 4th century and is built by a series of natural caves in the beautiful and steep mountains that surround it. The current main building dates from the 12th century.

We also saw Armenian bread Lavash being made in the traditional way.

It was a fun day trip and there is more to come. I will try to post every day. Stay tuned

Sleepy Robert

Omelette filled Lavash

Hello gentle readers. Welcome back. We have not done a recipe on the blog for a while and this one is a doozy and so simple.
Lena heard about it from her friend Nadezhda and she really wanted to try it.

We love omelette and since we have been in Armenia we love the lavash. Lavash, for those of you unfamiliar with it, is Armenian flat bread. Only bread made in Armenia can be called Lavash because it has UNESCO world heritage protection.

Ingredients

4 pieces of lavash
6 slices ham
Half an onion
Cheese
6 eggs
Salt and pepper

Method

In a round baking tray lay out the lavash so they completely cover the bottom of the tray.

Chop the ham, cheese and onion and put in the bread.

Break the eggs mix with salt and pepper and pour onto the bread.

Fold over the lavash so the egg is completely enclosed and place in a preheated oven about 200 degrees until the egg is cooked.

It was very tasty. Thanks Lena and Nadezhda for sharing the recipe.

Wednesday Thought: John Lennon

Hello Gentle Readers.

Today would have been John Lennon's 79th birthday. Taken from the world way to soon he has remained at the centre of our global consciousness ever since. His call for peace and love although slightly naive should be a lesson for us all in these cynical, evil times with leaders who care only about their own power.

Here to celebrate his birth are some words of his timeless wisdom.
