Holidays in Armenia Day 4 (part 2)

Hey Gentle Readers.

Lets continue our tour.

After we left the winery we headed back into the mountains and we drove through some of the most spectacular scenery I hsd ever seen. Our destination was Novorank monastary.

Novarank monastary had a very scary set of steps.

Once again though we were totally knocked out by just how beautiful these buildings are.

Lena's Halo

After the monastary we drove through some very deep canyons with steep sides to get to where we had lunch with some ducks.

After lunch Lena was getting very excited because she thought we were going to an observatory. We were, but it was a stone circle from Armenia's neolithic period.
Instead of telescopes it was holes carved in stone.
It was very impressive though but the weather was beginning to get cold and the wind cut through us.

This was our last stop of a long and tiring day and we headed to our hotel in Goris  with tired feet and inspired hearts and minds.

The Wings of Tatev

Hey gentle viewers

One of the highlights of our trip around Armenia was taking the Wings of Tatev cable car. It is the longest cable car route in the world and takes about 10 minutes.

Here for you is the full video that Lena filmed on Friday 1st November.

Holidays in Armenia: Day 4 (part 1)

Greetings Gentle Readers

The main highlight of our weeks holiday was always going to be Thursday 31st October and Friday 1st November.

We had planned a 2 day private tour with out own driver and we would visit some of the most beautiful and most iconic places in Armenia.

Day one started about 9.30 on Thursday when we were picked up by our driver and we headed out towards the border with Turkey and the monastary of Khor Virap.
It is from here that Armenians can get their closest to Mount Ararat.

Ararat is seen as a holy mountain to Armenians and for over 100 years they have been cut off from it because Turkey captured the land.

Our next stop was the winery at Areni and the drive took us very close to both the Turkish and Iranian border. The views were simply amazing.

The winery visit was interesting and we bought a couple of bottles to enjoy.
