Hello Gentle Readers.
At the school I work at, The International School of Riga, there is a traditional end of year overnight field trip on which most year groups attend.
2 years ago I took the grade 6 class to Cesis and they had to do community service at a home for children and complete a 10km hike.
Last year we went to Ventspils and did a lot of outdoor activities like archery and kayaking.
This year we are going to Liepaja where the pupils will complete their IMYC unit "Challenge".
The pupils will undertake a series of physical and mental activities that will push them to the limits.
For us as teachers we see it as a way for them to bond and make memories that hopefully will be with them forever.
On the trip they will visit Mezaparks in Riga and complete the Mezakakis climbing treetop challenge. Go to the Viking centre in Grobina and live like vikings for a few hours. Visit the Karoste prison in Liepaja and find out what it was like to be incarcerated there. They will try to Escape from the USSR, visit the orphanage in Liepaja and complete the Liepaja musical note orienteering trek.
Its a lot to do in three days but the pupils are determined to succeed at every challenge.
They have reached the end of Middle School and the challenges they have to come will make these few days seem easy by comparison.
I wish them the best of luck
