1547: Henry VIII of England dies. He is followed as king by his 9 year old son Edward VI.


1813: Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" is published for the first time.


1912: American artist Jackson Pollock is born.



1956: Elvis Presley makes his first TV appearance.


1986: The Space Shuttle Challenger explodes just after take off, killing all 7 astronauts.
