Hello Gentle Readers today we left the resort and visited one of Phukets most famous landmarks. The Big Buddha.
Situated on a high mountain that gives amazing views of the island. The 45m tall statue is actually located above a Buddhist temple.
There are lots of other statues and Buddhist relics at the site and it is surrounded by a forested area that has elephant trekking and monkeys. The poor elephants look very sad and we saw a few that had been chained. We saw one monkey down in a clearing but we were warned that they can be dangerous and will bite.
The temple itself seemed very holy and several monks were giving blessings for donations. As an atheist, I did not want to participate but Robert was keen. So he kicked of his shoes, walked on his knees towards the head monk, handed over his 20 baht and recieved a blessing and a string bracelet.
