Holidays in Armenia: Day 4 (part 1)

Greetings Gentle Readers

The main highlight of our weeks holiday was always going to be Thursday 31st October and Friday 1st November.

We had planned a 2 day private tour with out own driver and we would visit some of the most beautiful and most iconic places in Armenia.

Day one started about 9.30 on Thursday when we were picked up by our driver and we headed out towards the border with Turkey and the monastary of Khor Virap.
It is from here that Armenians can get their closest to Mount Ararat.

Ararat is seen as a holy mountain to Armenians and for over 100 years they have been cut off from it because Turkey captured the land.

Our next stop was the winery at Areni and the drive took us very close to both the Turkish and Iranian border. The views were simply amazing.

The winery visit was interesting and we bought a couple of bottles to enjoy.
