Wednesday Thought: Democracy

Hello there Gentle Readers. Well this is it. The 12th and last chapter of my journey through the Core Socialist Values of China.
I was doing some research and I discovered that despite all appearances, China is actually a democracy.

Shocked?

I was!

Turns out that famous Democrat Mao Zedung  invented "New Democracy". I wonder if it was anything like 'New Coke'. Remember that?  No. Noone does.

Mao's vision was of a China united in Socialism. He did not want a China that was divided into the workers and everyone else. He saw 4 seperate groups that would unite behind the Communist Party and crwate a better tomorrow.

Look at the Chinese flag.

The big star represents the Communist party and the 4 smaller stars represent the 4 main groups of China's population.
The peasentd, the proletariat, the petty bourgoisie and the Capitalists.

Mao wanted to create a Chinese democracy that was rooted in Communist Socialism.

Really....and people thought Hitler and Stalin were mad.

OK folks as this is the Wedn esday thought I suppose I better get some quotes from other people about democracy.

The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.

Winston Churchill

Democracy is when the indigent, and not the men of property, are the rulers.

Aristotle

Democracy is the road to socialism.

Karl Marx

Dictatorship naturally arises out of democracy, and the most aggravated form of tyranny and slavery out of the most extreme liberty.

Plato

Democracy is beautiful in theory; in practice it is a fallacy.

Benito Mussolini

I voted for you during your last election.

Mao Zedung
