1876: The Battle of Little Bighorn, known by the victorious Lakota Indians as the Battle of the Greasy Grass, takes place. General George Custer was killed in the battle.
 
 
1903: George Orwell, the British author of 1984 and Animal Farm is born.
 
 
1932: Peter Blake, the artist who designed the cover for the Beatles' album Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band is born.

 

1940: France surrenders to Nazi Germany.



1947: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank is published for the first time.

2009: Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, dies due to an accidental overdose.
