Having already done Latvia, my adopted home, its time for Scotland, my spiritual one.

1. Scotland's national animal is the Unicorn.

2. Loch Ness, though more famous is not the deepest lake in Scotland; its Loch Morar which reaches a depth of 328m.

3. Edinburgh was the first city in the world to have its own Fire brigade.
4. The Hamilton Mausoleum has the longest echo of any man-made structure in the world (15 seconds)
5. A Scot, Thomas Donahoe, introduced football to Brazil.
6.The shortest scheduled air flight in the world flies from Westray to Papa Westray in the Orkney Islands. The flight lasts 74 seconds.
7. Scotland has 790 islands, 130 are inhabited.

8. Golf has been played at St.Andrews since the 15th century.

9. The first recorded sighting of Nessie was in the year 565 when a "Water Beast" attacked one of St. Columba's followers.

10. Television, the telephone and penicillin were all discovered or invented by Scotsmen.
