Adoption in Latvia (part 1)

Hello gentle reader, Lena and I were a little bit concerned that there is no information for potential adoptees in Latvia in English.

Here is what we did to get to where we are so far:

We made sure we had medical records from our doctor, a copy of the lease for our apartment, a copy of our CV's, passports, Marriage Certificate, Latvian ID card and a letter explaining why we wanted to adopt and we went on a Thursday to the Orphan's court building (Kaleju iela 78) and just asked to speak to someone about adoption.

The lady explained that she would take all our information and it would be examined. It will sometimes take up to 30 days for your application to be accepted, but ours, thankfully, was accepted in two weeks.

At the next meeting, we met our assigned case worker, and she told us the next steps.
We will have to be interviewed individually at the next meeting and also have a joint meeting with a psychologist. Someone will come and view our home and check it is acceptable.
We have also said that we will attend weekly training sessions for newly adoptive parents. Next year these may become compulsory, at the moment they are voluntary.

Thats the procedure so far folks. When we have the next steps we will share them with you.
