1762: Catherine the Great becomes Tsar of Russia when Peter III is murdered.


 1899: Hollywood legend Jimmy Cagney is born.



1918: Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and his entire family are executed in Yeketerinburg.



1945: Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin meet at Potsdam to discuss the future of Germany after the defeat of the Nazis in World War II.


1952: The Hoff: David Hasselhoff is born.


1955: Disneyland opens in California.



2014: Air Malaysia flight 17 is shot down over Eastern Ukraine killing all 298 people on board.
